Roll Tide in Boqueron

AL Meets MSUMike and I had barely set foot inside Galloway’s Bar & Restaurant when we heard, “Theeere’s Sparty!” It was Clarence, a guy about the size of a SEC linebacker himself, sporting an Alabama baseball cap. For the next few minutes, we relived the bruising that ‘Bama delivered to Michigan State, Mike’s alma mater, in the Capital One Bowl. As Mike likes to say, it was a great game up until the kickoff.

Clarence was kind. He really hated to see the Tide roll over such a nice bunch of guys as the Spartans. His friend Luciano, a Penn State grad, agreed. It would have been so much more meaningful if, say, AL had beaten the stuffing out of the Buckeyes. “We really hate Ohio State,” explained Clarence, a Montgomery, AL, native.

There was one thing all the football fans at the table could agree on: Michigan State has the best all-around mascot. Who doesn’t love Sparty?
