Alone with the Moon

We arrived at Cayo Vivorillos after a moonlit sail.

Happy Times pulled up anchor at 11 p.m. last night and headed to this dot on the map that’s as remote as Media Luna, yesterday’s destination. We’re anchored at 15°50.089N, 83°18.33W.

Last night’s sail under a moonlit sky seemed magical. We sailed downwind, wing on wing, clipping along at 6 knots per hour. My watch lasted from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. I spent the last 30 minutes in complete silence except for the sea’s swish against the hulls and the creaking of the rigging. Venus shone brightly, vying for attention with the nearly full moon.

A night passage like this is one of the best parts of cruising.
