Winter Wonderland

You’ve got to love a place where the bartenders wear horns, the bar goes round and round, entertainers perform live onstage, and the entry is free. There’s a Christmas market with crafts for sale, a large ice skating rink, and a roller coaster pulled by eight tiny reindeer. Winter Wonderland proved to be a great destination on our second night in London. It’s found in Hyde Park, a cinch to reach on the Underground.

We set off to explore Winter Wonderland, now in its eighth year, at Mikayla’s suggestion. It had a great vibe as families, couples and young singles strolled around. The Bavarian village offered ice cold German beer or steaming mulled wine for purchase with an assortment of sausages, pizza, hot dogs and other walking-around food.

While the park is open from 10 to 10 daily, it offers special magic at night when everyone’s face is aglow from the Christmas lights. Or beer.

For the next six months, the Lezovi will be cruising by land through Europe. S/V Happy Times lies safely at Mario’s Marina, Rio Dulce, Guatemala, awaiting our return in May.
