Santorini in the Middle

Mikayla's birth

Our new happy family.

Mike dashed into the bathroom as I was putting on my makeup. We were about to head out the door to Piedmont Hospital. Our baby was breech and our obstetrician was going to turn it gently into a better position.

“We’ve got to have a name if it’s a girl!” he alerted me.

“What are you talking about? We’ll be home by lunch,” I calmly replied.

“We have to be ready. Where’s your bag?”

“I’m not having this baby today. We’ve got three more weeks.”

father and daughter

Mike’s still a proud father after 16 years on the job.

Mike disappeared for an instant and popped his head again in the bathroom door.

“What do you think about Mikayla Santorini?”

“I think it’s beautiful.”

The name, the daughter, the island. Beautiful.
